The grand opening of the foundation stone laying ceremony for United Water’s Water Supply Project in Dhaka, Bangladesh

On September 14, 2021, the foundation stone laying ceremony of the water supply facility project in Purbachal New Town of Dhaka, Bangladesh was held at the site. The project is funded and operated by United Delcot Limited, which is majority-owned by United Water, has a designed water supply capacity of 340,000 cubic meter/d and will provide qualified water service to approximately 1.6 million residents of Purbachal New Town upon completion.

Mr. Sharif Ahmed, Minister of State, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Mr. Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Minister of Housing and Public Works, Mr. Sultana Afroz, Minister and Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Public-Private Joint Management Department, and Mr. Amin Ullah Nuri, Chairman, RAJUK, Asian Development Bank (ADB) representative, United Delcot Executive Director Mr. Dayem Khandker and other leaders and distinguished guests attended the ceremony and unveiled.

Minister of State Mr. Sharif Ahmed and Minister Mr. Shahid Ullah Khandaker delivered effusive speeches at the ceremony respectively. They recognized United Delcot Water Limited’s contribution for promoting the construction of Water Supply and Distribution Project in Dhaka Bangladesh. I wish the smooth construction of the water supply and distribution project, a modern new city in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and wish the project be completed smoothly and put into operation at an early date.

At the ceremony, Mr. Dayem Khandker, Executive Director of United Delcot Water Limited, Mr. Amin Ullah Nuri, Chairman of RAJUK, and representatives of the Asian Development Bank cosigned the co-management account agreement for the project. The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank and Bangladesh City Bank. The signing of the co-management account agreement provides a strong guarantee for the fund management and use.

The Water Supply and Distribution Project in Dhaka Bangladesh is the first overseas water supply project of United Water and the first water PPP project in Bangladesh. Since the start of the project, United Water and its Bangladeshi partners have worked together to ensure the smooth progress of the project, with the aim of building a demonstration project, overcoming various difficulties such as the COVID-19. The implementation of the project will be an example for the development of the Bangladeshi water industry, and also lay a solid foundation for United Water to be international.
